Father Mark - A Special Thank You

We would like to take the opportunity to thank Father Mark, our school chaplain, for coming into school throughout the year to
share quiet reflections with the children and staff. The children really enjoy it when Father Mark is able to join them for singing. They love to learn new signs to our songs as well as show Father Mark how they love to sing. 

Friendship Awards

Well done to our Friendship Award winners. These children have been chosen by their teacher for being a fantastic friend all year.

Mr. Hanrahan Award 

Each year, our school staff select a child from Year 2 to receive the Mr Hanrahan award. Mr Hanrahan was a much-loved Governor of our school for many years and since he passed away, we have remembered him by giving this annual award. Well done to Polly from Blue Class for winning this year. Polly sets a fantastic example to others, behaves beautifully at all times and tries her very best.

 

Infant Music Festival

Year 2 made their way to Wade Deacon in June for the annual Infant Music Festival! The theme for this year was ‘Our Wonderful World’ and the songs were much enjoyed by the whole school.

 

     

Springs Dance

Springs Dance led workshops with Year 1 and Year 2. The sessions were based on the ‘Creation’ story and the children showed us their
creative talents. They found different ways to re-enact different parts of the story and had a great time!

Anne Davies Reading Award

We were delighted to hear from the daughter of a former St. Bede’s Infants pupil. Anne Davies attended the Infants in the 1940s and always spoke warmly of her time here. Sadly, Anne has recently passed away but her daughter has kindly donated a book for one child from each class, to recognise outstanding effort in reading. We were proud to present the first awards this week and this will now become an annual reading award. Anne’s daughter has also kindly donated a tree for our garden, which will be planted in the Autumn. Thank you to the family of Anne Davies and well done to all the prize winners.

     

Saints Peter and Paul Year Two Choir 

Mrs Saunders from Saints Peter and Paul brought her wonderful choir to share some fabulous songs with our Year 2 choir. We had
such a lovely afternoon, sharing singing talents and making beautiful music!

Police Visit

We were visited by Merseyside Police officers earlier this week. The children loved exploring the police van and talking about all of the special jobs that the police do. Thanks to Merseyside Police

     

 

Widnes Catholic Children's Choir

The Archdiocese of Liverpool has arranged for Catholic children in Widnes in Years Two -6,who enjoy singing, to attend a
choir. The Year Two children thoroughly enjoyed this amazing opportunity.

Internet Safety Day

The children learn about Internet Safety whilst they are in school. Please talk to your children about keeping themselves
safe online. We have a page dedicated to Internet Safety on our website with advice about age-ratings and other general information. 

Community Arts Awe and Wonder Day

A lovely morning spent with our families celebrating creativity together and sharing in the awe and wonder experienced when children experience nature and art. 

St. Francis - A Special Jubilee

2026 marks the 800th anniversary of St Francis of Assisi's death in 1226. Pope Leo XIV declared that it will be a special Year of St. Francis. Pope Leo has said: "This Year of St Francis spurs all of us, each according to our possibilities to imitate the poor man of Assisi, to form ourselves as far as possible on the model of Christ... may the hope that has seen us as pilgrims now be transformed into zeal and fervour of active charity." The Year runs from 10 January 2026, the closing of the Jubilee Year "Pilgrims of Hope", until 10 January 2027. 

Halton Primary Arts Network (HPAN)

HPAN Arts—We took part in the Halton Primary Arts Network art exhibition again this year. The theme for this year was

‘We are all different and that’s what makes us beautiful.’

The children’s work was displayed at Runcorn’s Shopping City for 2 weeks. 

   

Widnes Food Bank

Children have kindly donated to the Widnes Foodbank, to support families in the local community. 

                     

 

Holy Week Reflection

The children in Year 2 shared a special Holy Week reflection with children in Reception and Year 1. It was lovely to hear the Easter
story retold by the children as they reenacted the events. 

World Book Day

The children enjoyed World Book Day, especially being able to come to school in their pyjamas! Classrooms were filled with excitement as we shared our favourite books, discovered new characters and celebrated the joy of reading together. 

 

Junior Park Run with Hayley

Hayley from Junior Park run came to tell us all about this fantastic (and free) event. Junior Park Run takes place every Sunday at Victoria Park, at 9am. One of our Year 1s is a regular runner at the event and showed us some of the warm ups! 

Outdoor Learning

Our wonderful Governors visited this week to see our fantastic outdoor learning provision for Reception children. Mrs. Jackson showed the Governors round and they spoke to the children who were very keen to share what they enjoyed about their outdoor space. 

   

Awe and Wonder Day

Another fantastic morning shared with our families celebrating the wonder of nature through art and creativity. 

   

Emperor's New Clothes

The Emperor’s New Clothes—The children (and staff) thoroughly enjoyed Altru’s version of The Emperor’s New Clothes. This professional touring production came to visit, including a full set, costumes and live original music. The actors and musicians
were brilliant!

   

Widnes Rotary Club Shoebox Appeal

Teaching staff at St. Bede's donated items throughout November and December to support Widnes Rotary Club's Showbox Appeal. The School Councillors helped to load the boxes and get them ready for their journey to those in need. A huge thank you to all who donated to this worthwhile appeal.

Outstanding Celebrations

In October, we were visited by two Ofsted inspectors who shared in the wonderful work that St. Bede's staff and children take part in every day. We are delighted to report that we have retained our outstanding grading in all areas. Well done to all the staff, community stakeholdes and pupils - what a well-deserved outcome! Of course, we needed to celebrate afterwards!

Arts Week - 'What a Wonderful World'

As part of HPAN (Halton Primary Arts Network) theme 'A Wonderful World', children explored the many fabulous ways in which our world is wonderful. The exhibition will take place in February with further dates to follow. Year two focused on the oceans and created a beautiful sea of jelly fish using chalk and oil pastels, watercolours and permanent markers.

  

Remembrance Day

Miss Scragg led a Collective Worship for Remembrance Day with Key Stage One. Children refelcted an events of the past and indeed the current issues faced by many in our world today.
